Born on February 6, 1931 in LaCrosse, WI, she was the daughter of the late Matthew and Marie (Burke) Karis. Raised and educated in LaCrosse, Dorothy was united in marriage to Edward Mortenson on September 6, 1952. Following their marriage, they relocated to St. Paul, MN for a short time before settling in Kenosha in 1962. Sadly, Edward passed away on October 26, 2003. Her family finds peace in knowing that she is reunited with her husband, dancing to their favorite song, "Because of You".
Dorothy was employed with Greene Manufacturing in Racine for 29 years before her retirement. She also volunteered her time at Bain School, helping students learn to read. She enjoyed taking care of her yard, flower gardening, shopping and making crafts. Dorothy had a love of nature, an eye for design and an ear for music. Always active and on the go, she treasured the time she spent with her family.
She will be deeply missed by her two sons, Michael and James Mortenson both of Kenosha; five daughters, Mary (Ray) Castillo of Mt. Pleasant, Karen (Tony) Cline of Kenosha, Sandra (Todd) Herman of Mt. Pleasant, Renae (Jeffrey) Johnson of Racine and Barbara (Gregg) Jaeger of Kenosha; a sister, Marcella Olson of Minnesota. She is further survived by 16 grandchildren, Tony (Carrie), Chris and Jenny Castillo, Michael (Nicole), Adam (Jennifer) Mortenson and Ellyn (Jereme) Arndt, Brian (Rachel), Cori and Garrett Ingram, Brynn, Alexandra, Britton and Addy Herman, Kyle, Casey and Kayla Jaeger; 10 great grandchildren and she was anticipating the arrival of her 11th great grandchild in August.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, James, Cletus and Sylvester Karis; two sisters, Helen Tietze and Beverly Tolley and a daughter-in-law, Kathy Mortenson.
