Obituary:

Frank E. Matelski entered into our Lord's Mansion on Sunday, January 29, 2012, after a short stay at Aurora Medical Center.

Born in Kenosha on December 1, 1923, he was the son of the late Frank and Wanda (Kasalajtis) Matelski, Sr.  He attended Kenosha schools, graduating from Mary D. Bradford in 1941.

Retired Major Frank Matelski proudly served his country during WWII in the Pacific theatre, not only as a bombardier but also in some phases of aerial navigation.

Frank joined the Kenosha Police Force in 1946 where he earned a promotion as a Sergeant.  Frank left the force to complete his college education in Madison and subsequently his Masters Degree.

When residing in Greendale, WI, Frank served 15 years on the Village Board, 20 years as Commissioner of the Police and Fire Department, and Chairman of the Finance Committee.  He was a board member of the Southridge Bank, and also St. Mary's Academy where he successfully initiated and researched the eligibility of the retired Sisters to receive Social Security.  Frank was a past Grand Knight and Past Navigator of the Bishop Henni Assembly.  He actively participated in numerous clubs and organizations.

In 1955, he accepted an offer with the Wisconsin Telephone Company, and retired in 1982 as the company's Treasurer.

Survivors include his wife of 63 plus years, the former Irene Sluzynski; his two sons, Stephen (Eileen) Matelski and John (Mary K.) Matelski; his granddaughter, Stephanie; his three grandsons, Jacob (Melissa), Jamison and Keenan; and his great grandson, Ethan.  He is further survived by many dear and loving nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Frank was preceded in death by four brothers, Joseph, Chester, Leo and Casimir Matelski; and one sister, Mary Bose.

The family takes this opportunity to thank Dr. Giuseppe Garretto, D.O. and Stacy, JoEllen and all the "Angels of Mercy" who assisted Frank in his final journey.
