Visitation:Obituary:Edward Carl Onosko, 92, passed away peacefully at his home on January 2, 2012. "Ed" entered this world on January 6, 1919, the son of Polish immigrants Joseph and Julia (Krasowski) Onoszko. He was educated at St. Casimir's School and was a graduate of Kenosha High School. Ed also attended Marquette University, pre-med. In service to his country during WWII, Ed was commissioned as a Captain in the Signal Corps serving in Chicago's 33rd Division. He was stationed in the Philippine Islands, Japan and Africa and served with such notables as Chicago politician "Jake" Garvey and fashion designer Oleg Cassini. A decorated veteran, Ed received the "Bronze Star" from General Douglas MacArthur along with several other citations. His final orders during the war were for him to be deployed to Hiroshima with the advance communications battalion. Those orders were rescinded only days before the atomic bomb was dropped there. On November 18, 1942 he wed the love of his life, Leocadia (Lee) Lapszys. She preceded him in death on May 31, 2005. Ed and Lee were blessed with 2 sons, Timothy Edward and Mark Thomas. Prior to his military service Ed was employed by Standard Theaters as Assistant Manager and Manager of the Kenosha Theater and Gateway Theater. Following WWII, Ed and Lee made their home on the New Jersey shore. He was employed by the Arthur Silverman Company in Manhattan. Ed and Lee's life in the East, however, was cut short with their return to Kenosha due to family health concerns. Family came first for Ed, even before himself. A brilliant engineer and inventor, Ed was employed in Management with the Ladish Company, Tri-Clover Division for over 4 decades, retiring in 1985. In 1986 with the encouragement of his wife, Ed formed Onosko/Associates: Consultants to Industry which he operated until 2006. He was also the holder of several US patents which are still used in the Food, Dairy and Pharmaceutical industry today. Ed was a world traveler, circling the globe nearly 8 times during his lifetime. During his tenure with Ladish Company, Ed was involved with international licensing and lectured in China and the former Soviet Union as an Ambassador of the United States Chamber of Commerce, traveling on numerous "trade missions". He was a member of Mt. Carmel Parish, the former Saint Casimir Church, the National Accountants Association, Knights of Columbus and BPOE Lodge 750. Ed is survived by his son, Mark Thomas Onosko and his wife, Joyce Ann of Mt. Pleasant, a sister, Genevieve Dagenbach of Altamonte Springs, FL, a very special nephew, Thomas Edward Getschman and his wife Patricia and special sister-in-law Helen Lapszys, all of Kenosha. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews along with many great-nieces and great-nephews. He was proceeded in death by his wife of 63 years, Leocadia in 2005, son Timothy Edward in 2008, his parents Joseph and Julia and brothers Stanley, Felix and Joseph Onosko. The Onosko Family would like to acknowledge the wonderful care that Ed received during his last months from the staffs of Seasons Hospice and Experienced Elderly Care Service. You've all touched our lives in the same way that Ed touched yours. |
