Obituary:

Niels went to live in peace with the Lord after a brief illness on Monday, July 26, 2010 and has joined his father, Capt. Pieter VanDenBergh and his step-father, Dr. Leonard Rauen.

Niels graduated from MacMurray College in 1981 with Magna Cum Laude.  He loved the beach and always enjoyed fishing.

He was an avid Chicago football/baseball and devoted Blackhawk "old-time" hockey fan.  Niels was also a true die-hard Dutch soccer fan.

He loved playing flyball with his buddy Joopie, his dog.  He often spoke about his journey here on earth and his grace and strength these last few weeks were an inspiration and an example to all of us who knew and loved him so dearly.

Niels will be greatly missed.  He is survived by his mother, Will's C. VanDenBergh.  Left to cherish his memories are his two brothers and their wives, Pieter and Ranae and Roland and Anita VanDenBergh.  Additionally, he is survived by his nieces, Michelle, Shannon, Candice, Mariska; and a great-niece, Chloe. He also left behind his girl friend, Cheryl and his life-long friend, Paul and his wife Colleen Huidobro.

Niels' family would like to convey a special thank you to all of you for your love and support of his journey over the years.  A special thank you goes out to all his colleagues, nurses and doctors at the Kenosha Hospital, Oncology Alliance, Inc. and Hospice Alliance, Inc.

Dear Van den bergh family,

I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Niels.

We were classmates at MacMurray and spent a lot of time together playing basketball and enjoying music while competing at backgammon.

"Dutch", as he was known to his buddies around campus, was a great guy and I am glad to have known him.

I am so very sorry for your loss.

Kindest Regards,

Jack Tague
