James "Jim" R. Kolkmann, Sr., age 64 of Kenosha, died at his daughter's residence after a 15 month courageous battle with cancer on Monday, July 19, 2010, with his loving family and friends at his side.

Born in Kenosha on January 4, 1946, he was the son of Raymond and Harriet (Hilicki) Kolkmann.  A lifelong resident of Kenosha, he attended local schools and was a 1964 graduate of Mary D. Bradford High School.

Jim entered the U.S. Army on November 4, 1964 receiving the National Defense Service Medal and Sharpshooter Rifle Medal.  He was honorably discharged on November 3, 1967.

On June 1, 1968 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, he was united in marriage to Bernadette Wember.

For 18 years, Jim was employed with the City of Kenosha Water Utility as a plant operator.  Prior to his employment with the City, he was an automobile mechanic.

Jim was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing and spending time up north at the family home in Necedah.  Many happy memories were made when he was with his family; especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Bernadette "Bunny"; his father, Raymond Kolkmann of Kenosha; his two children, Judi (Jay) Rhodes and Jim Kolkmann, Jr., both of Kenosha; his four grandchildren, Rebecca, Kaitlin, Logan and Joshua Rhodes, all of Kenosha; his two brothers, Richard (Elaine) Kolkmann of Bloomington, MN and Jeffrey (Cindy) Kolkmann of Utah; his sister, Suzie (Dave) Warnock of Kenosha; his brother and sister-in-laws, David (Sandy) Larson, Lydia (Ronald) Gauthier and Louise (Bill) Redlin; and many loving nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother.

Once again sorry for your loss, we made a donation to the American Cancer Society in memory of Jim, we just attended a relay for life event last Saturday and plan to attend next year and we will make it a point to remember Jim at that time next year.

My father and I (Ronda) are both survivors so we will walk for him next year.
